Lake Erie College Professor Appointed to Board of Directors| for the Deepwood Foundation
Lake Erie College proudly announces that Dr. Katie Davis, Professor of Special Education, has been appointed to the Board of Directors for the Deepwood Foundation. The appointment, which reflects Dr. Davis’s dedication to community engagement and social impact, significantly strengthens the college’s commitment to fostering collaboration between higher education and local nonprofits.
The Deepwood Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, works to enhance the quality of life and promote independence for people throughout Lake County, Ohio. Dr. Davis, who has taught at Lake Erie College for 15 years, is known for her work in special education.
“I was in the field of special education long before I had a son with Autism. He has only strengthened my passion for preparing future special education teachers at Lake Erie College and assisting the Developmental Disability and special needs community in every capacity I can,” said Dr. Davis. She demonstrates this not only through her appointment to the Deepwood Board but also through teaching online for Gallaudet University, serving as Vice President of Heroes Helping Those with Special Needs, a 501(c)(3) that trains first responders to interact safely with individuals with Autism, her role as an Ohio Family Network Parent Mentor for Milestones Autism Resources, and through running an Autism parent support group for Lake County. Stated Davis, “I am honored to serve alongside others who share my dedication to the Lake County DD community and look forward to contributing to the mission of Deepwood for many years to come.”
Dr. Davis joins a distinguished group of leaders from various fields who bring their expertise to the foundation. The board works to guide the foundation in its efforts to provide resources, programs, and advocacy for people with developmental disabilities, ensuring they have access to the tools and opportunities needed to lead fulfilling lives.
“We are thrilled that Dr. Davis has been selected to join the Deepwood Foundation’s Board of Directors,” said Lake Erie College President Jennifer N. Schuller. “Her appointment is a testament to the caliber of faculty here at Lake Erie College, who excel in their academic fields and demonstrate an unwavering commitment to improving the communities we serve.”
